At this year's state GOP convention, delegates argued for an hour (seriously) over a proposed amendment to the party platform that would've allowed a statewide vote on whether "to reassert Texas' status as an independent nation."
"Don't just vote aye, vote hell aye — for your children and grandchildren," one supporter yelled before the vote. And why not? A state tourism campaign once declared: "Texas: It's like a whole other country."
OK, so the no-fun wing of the party prevailed, and experts say there's no legal basis for Texas to split from the U.S. anyway. But we choose to gleefully ignore the facts, and offer up 10 ways that whole other country will be a whole lot different (see slideshow above).
